Ride the Lighting was the second studio album released by Metallica, in 1984. Showcasing a true artistic evolution from their first record, it provided the world with the killer classic, 'Fade to Black'. The album's name and emblematic cover of an electric chair were inspired by Stephen King's 'The Stand', in which a character refers to the chair as riding the lightning.
